What methods are used to diagnose kidney stones?

Ultrasonography is the most commonly used method in the diagnosis of kidney and urinary tract stones.

Ultrasonography is a simple and fast method.

Furthermore, Direct graphy is a frequently used method.

Although we can identify most of the stones in the urinary tract with ultrasonography, we do not see about 10% to 20% of them in ultrasonography.

Because the parts that are close to the kidney and urinary bladder can only be displayed with ultrasound.

We only see the other parts with an X-ray.

In the Direct graphy method, we only see a fraction of 50% to 60% of the stones.

Some stones cannot be displayed in X-rays.

We see more than 90% of the stones in the imaging method called tomography.

We usually do this without intravenous medication, but in cases of doubt, it is possible to examine the urinary tract by giving drugs from the veins.

It can also be diagnosed by radiological methods such as the medicated Kidney Film (IVP), spiral, computed tomography. The treatment plan varies depending on the location, number of stones and the diameter of the stones.
