What are the Northern Lights

During the winter months of the cold and darkness reigned in the north, especially in the Baltic countries such as Finland, Norway, the dark end lasted for months, along with the approaching summer season. During this summer season, the sun melts the frozen lands, allowing nature and all vitality to flourish. The power of the Sun, which provides the life cycle of this cold land, creates another magnificent in the sky. It is an atmospheric feast that only happens in the Arctic regions of the planet: Aurora Borealis... Or the extraordinary dance show of the Northern Lights... Those who can watch this incredible color and light show in the sky will realize that they have experienced an unforgettable experience.

The magnetic currents caused by storms in the sun are causing extraordinary light demonstrations in the Arctic regions of the world. In the vicinity of the Arctic Circle, this light feast, especially in the Baltic countries, is called the Aurora borealis. The Roman goddess of the dawn of Aurora, named after the combination of the words Boreas, which means the northern wind in Latin, and is indeed as impressive as the beauty of a goddess, thousands of kilometers to be able to testify to this phenomenon. People are gathering in the northern countries every year in certain seasons. The same event is happening in the South Pole and is known as the Aurora australis (Southern lights).

The Northern Lights are the name given to the image of the magnetic fields created by the solar winds formed by the magnetic storm formed by the sun-generated explosions, interacting with the Earth's atmosphere. Solar winds move away from the sun about 1 million miles an hour. And after 40 hours of leaving the sun, they follow the magnetic power lines produced by the earth core and enter the magnetic armor called the magnetosphere surrounding the world. This magnetic field is in the form of teardrop and has a relatively high proportion of electrically charged and magnetic fields. The electrons, which entered the top layer of the Earth's atmosphere, collide with the oxygen and nitrogen atoms found in the atmosphere and the Aurora event occurs. Aurora's color depends on which atom it collides with, and the height of which this collision occurs. The electrons that collide with oxygen form the green and red Aurora, while the nitrogenated collide with the blue and violet-colored aurora.

As the auroras are related to activities in the sun, they can be seen in the southern regions when the storms in the sun are concentrated. These magnetic storms, cyclic in every 11 years, lead to huge explosions in the sun and scatter billions of tons of plasma and loaded particles into space. Finally, the Aurora was seen in a more frequent and wider area thanks to this cycle, which occurred in the years 2001 and 2002.

The magnetic poles of the world are changing places around every 100,000 years. During this change that lasted approximately 100 years, the Earth's magnetic field decreases by 90 percent. So the world loses its magnetic armor. The scientists predict that the next polar change is very close. In the case of polar displacement, we consider the number 10 in various parts of the world, where weak magnetic poles will emerge, and the possibility that the Northern lights can be seen in many parts of the world; In the future, you can see the Northern Lights from your window.

This mysterious show of nature also holds an important place in the mythology of the Baltic states. In some legends, the lights described as "good and evil souls in another dimension" are depicted in some of them as "sparks belonging to the tails of fire-made foxes". But perhaps the most interesting among them is the depiction of the warrior goddesses as the glow of the Valkyrior armor and swords of these mysterious lights.

Of course, the fact that no one will refuse is that these extraordinary lights create an incredible visual feast. The chance is that those who can watch this phenomenon of nature, the universe and infinity can once again feel all the beauty and glory.
